Identity protection: one of the 4 key topics discussed during the TAC Forum.
Attend a round-table with scientific experts, key industrial actors and high decision-makers in home affairs , Monday 8 July!

Aadhaar: India launches the world's biggest biometric project.

« Aadhaar », which could be translated by « Foundation », is the name of the world’s biggest creation project of a biometric infrastructure for identity management. Managed by the Indian government, this project has the ambition to give a trust identification to every Indian resident. Therefore, more than 1,2 billion – that being almost 20% of the world’s population -  will receive a unique number of 12 figures after analyse of their digital prints and of their iris.
Thanks to this unique number, India intends to manage the more ambitious programme of societal transformation: every citizen or foreign resident will have the possibility to defend his rights, anywhere on the territory and at any time. Food coupons, transport card, right to education, right to health, bank account opening, micro-payment, etc… will become available for the whole population and, more specifically, for the poors and needy, who were until then out of any social help.

Creation and protection of identity are thus being brought at the heart of the economic development of India.
